At about 6,000 miles I started hearing the infamous chirp of a water pump. It was completely random and not reproducible, especially when at the Jeep dealership. I’ve mentioned it several times over the last 20,000 miles to my Jeep service tech. I know I’m not alone with this issue, you can read more here, here and here. My dealership has seen this issue a handful of times with the new 3.6 liter platform. To eliminate the squeal and avoid a potentially expensive engine repair due to a water pump failure, they ordered a new part. I’m told the new pump is redesigned and the issue is fixed. I’m not sure what that means, they didn’t seem to have any more information. So, at 26,259 miles my Jeep has a new water pump, water pump gasket and fresh coolant. Hopefully, the chirp is no more.
Has anyone else had water pump issues with their JK?
